SDSL (Symmetrical DSL) is a style of connection that supports the same data rates for both the upstream and downstream traffic. Typically, th service is very similar to standard DSL, however the enhanced upload rates allow for a wide range of new networking oppertunities previously hindered by lower upstream rates.
SDSL services are offered in a variety of speed increments from 2.3mbps, 5.7mbps and 11.4mbps. Through the use of a syncronous connection, services such as voice and video conferencing are quickly made very sustainable without adversely affecting other users sharing the connection. In many cases, users are able to capitolize on the larger upstream bandwidth available and utilize this for hosting servers and/or services in house, helping them avoid other costly off-site storage and hosting alternatives.
