Fires are extinguished utilizing a gas system that is not harmful to electronic components, as opposed to a water or liquid based solution. ACI's FM-200 fire suppression system is fully redundant for maximum protection. The FM-200 system extinguishes fires by interrupting the chemical chain reaction required for a fire to continue burning.

ACI's FM-200 is an industry trusted choice in waterless fire suppression and was originally developed as part of the DuPont family of clean agent fire extinguishants. The FM-200 system is an accepted a respected solution in the fire-protection market worldwide, with a strong history of protecting some of the world's most critical assets. Utilized in over 70 countries and in thousands of data centres worldwide, the FM-200 system is designed to protect technology against fire.

The fire suppression systems is designed to reach extinguishing levels within 10 seconds or less, stopping fires before any cause significant damage can be caused. Upon deployment, the gaseous agent then spreads throughout the hazard area to suppress the fire. This fast reaction can mean the difference between a minor incident and a major loss. The FM-200 system is designed and deployed in a way to not only prevent fire, but also allow normal business to resume nearly immediately. The need for little to no downtime after an event ensures that all data and systems continue operating even during a catastrophic event. 

Keeping conscious of environmental protection, the FM-200 system employs a technology that drastically reduces any environmental impact in comparison to similar systems available. ACI has further integrated state-of-the-art detection technology and clean-agent chemistry to provide fire protection for our world class data centre facility.  The gases utilized in the FM-200 system will not deplete stratospheric ozone, they have a short atmospheric lifetime (31-42 years) and have minimal global warming potential. As such, the FM-200 is part of the EPA's SNAP list of acceptable Halon alternatives that are approved for use in total flooding, special hazard, fire-suppression systems.

How the FM-200 System Works

Once a fire is detected within the data centre facility the FM-200 system enters an alarm mode, at which time it is put on high alert and prepares for deployment. The system does not deploy immediately to prevent possible false alarms and preserve its charge. Should fire continue to be detected, the FM-200 will deploy, and generally extinguish the fire within 15 seconds or less. This incredibly fast response time ensures that minimal damage is done by any blaze.
